What if I told you I knew how to make you look and feel younger, prettier, and happier this summer, not to mention smell irresistible? Ready to take your skin, hair and nail regime to the next level? Welcome to beauty in the summer months.
You and I both know that the eyes are one of the critical areas where aging shows up. Relastin Eye Silk is the first product to clinically demonstrate the ability to "restore the spring" by increasing functional elastin content and improving elasticity around the eyes. Eye Silk's patent-pending Zinc Firming Complex works at the cellular level to promote the formation of functional elastin in the skin and has been shown to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and under eye laxity, puffiness and dark circles. All I know is that I look a bit more rested in the morning! Eye Silk is available at www.Relastin.com
Looking to make hearts flutter whenever you bat your eyelashes? This summer Josie Maran's Mascara tops my list for best addition to my makeup bag. An everyday must-have, this paraben and fragrance free formula also contains organic ingredients like Jojoba oil, Argan oil and Beeswax to condition and strengthen your lashes. Model Josie Maran is the former face of Maybelline cosmetics and her love of the natural world led her to create a line of cosmetics that have the look and feel of a high-end luxe brand that's also good for you! Her packaging is also environmentally friendly. Josie Maran Cosmetics are available at Barneys New York and online at www.JosieMaranCosmetics.com
With sunnier days on the horizon, no summer beauty routine is complete without a great daily moisturizer. Journee, a bio-restorative day cream with PSP (a powerful ingredient that dramatically reduces the visible signs of skin aging) is considered to be the most complete anti-again day cream that also offers UVA/UVB SPF 30+. Journee is also recommended for post-procedures as it helps soothe and protect sensitive stressed skin and is also free of synthetic color and fragrance. This exclusive Swiss technology is available through physicians nationwide. To find a physician near you, please visit www.NeoCutis.com
If you read my column, then you know I'm a big advocate of having a great massage to reduce stress and restore the mind, body and soul. I truly believe a relaxed and happy body will make you look happier and younger. I can always count on a top quality massage at the world famous Ole Henriksen in West Hollywood, California because he only hires the best. I was in for an amazing treat this time around because my masseuse Briony is truly gifted! But don't worry, even if you are far from Los Angeles and can't make it in for a Hot Rocks Treatment or Swedish Massage, Ole Henriksen has an amazing African Red Tea Self Heating Body Souffle that will give you some of the same wonderful benefits. When massaged into damp skin, this luxurious cream warms up to stimulate circulation and relax muscle tissue, plus the powerful African Red Tea antioxidants penetrate deeper, resulting in softer skin. The Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Trio is available at www.OleHenriksen.com
and Sephora nationwide.
When summer rolls around, nails are the perfect way to update your look. I always check in with Jessica Nail Clinic on Sunset strip, which is known as the gold standard for nails. The celebs who frequent this spot are too numerous to mention, but I'm always most impressed that first ladies such as Nancy Reagan are/have been clients. It's easy to see why, nails are taken very seriously here and my "nail cultivist" Rodica, who's been with Jessica for over 30 years, put me at ease. I had to ask her about her take on manicures and colors. She confided that baby pinks are what all the celebs wear, although they are occasionally wearing a lavender gray called Loving the Lilacs for Red Carpet events. And just so you know, her manicures last a full two weeks--they're that good. To get your lovely fingers on the latest collection of Jessica's spring polishes go to www.JessicaCosmetics.com
, where you can view the new Botanicals Collection of summer-perfect colors ranging from Rosy Romance to Coral Reef Daisies. P.S. I dare you to add the new Loving the Lilacs into your mix of summer colors!
One of the potentially best but most anxiety inducing aspects of my job is trying out new hair salons. But always adventurous, I'm still game to try out new ones, especially when they've received the kind of national attention that Neil George Salon in Beverly Hills has. With clients like Renee Zellweger, Reese Witherspoon, Heidi Klum, Hilary Swank, Kate Hudson, Cameron Diaz and Mary Kate Olsen, why not take a chance? I had the great fortune to have my tresses in the hands of the very capable owners, Neil Weisberg, who cut my hair and Amanda George, who did my color. Part of why they're so successful is that they very directly find out what you have in mind and then make it happen. Nothing dramatic, just a super well done job.
When it comes to hair care I'm a bit finicky, but I liked everything Amanda explained about the healthy way Neil George has integrated the restorative Indian Gooseberry into their new line of products. Needless to say, they went into immediate rotation in my shower--I love these products and they smell great! I've also been using their new Detangle Nourishment Spray, which is a great thing to spritz on your hair before drying or flat ironing and I like it because it doesn't make your hair feel gunky or sticky. One of the tell-tale signs of warmer weather is dryer skin. Carol's Daughter makes a luxurious formula that goes on light and fluffy like a soufflé, but moisturizes skin with the intensity of butter. I used it every day and love the velvety but non-sticky way it feels. It's also paraben, mineral oil, petroleum, and artificial color free. Carol's Daughter's Ocean Shea Soufflé is available at www.CarolsDaughter.com
Finally, if you're searching for that intangible addition to your spring beauty regime, look no further than a spritz of Tea, one of the delicate trio of recently released perfumes by Kenzo in his Les Eaux De Fleurs Collection. Inspired by traditional Japanese trees, Tea is fresh and floral, with notes of green tea and a hint of musk, reminiscent of fresh leaves melding with the gentle aroma of the tea flowers. This lovely perfume is available at www.kenzousa.com
Wishing you all the best in beauty that the summer has to offer!
