With its clean-cut cubist appearance, the RAIS TOPAS wood-burning stove stands out as a piece of modern furniture. However, it’s the highly-efficient intelligent wood-burning technology that delivers incredible combustion efficiency that attracts the praise. It is a unique find for the connoisseur – a total experience with or without fire.
“While maximizing fuel efficiency to lower home heating costs is often times that primary motivator for wood stove replacement or new purchases, RAIS wood stove owners see real value in RAIS’ elegant design, innovative details, and distinctive style”, explains National Sales & Marketing Director Jason Perry. “Because the RAIS TOPAS qualifies as a 75%-efficient biomass-burning stove it is also a wise environmental choice, which qualifies for the 2009/2010 US 30% tax credit.”
This stove is of a new generation modeled after the beloved, yet simple original RAIS design line, characterized by a large glass door and firewood holder. It’s equipped with unique RAIS details, such as the innovative air wash system and a two-step door child-safe opening system ensures safe access to the flames. Likened to a piece of designer furniture of a quality that continues the world famous Scandinavian design tradition, the RAIS TOPAS is so much more.
Specifications: The RAIS TOPAS is constructed with high-strength Swedish steel that has good uniform quality. It is available in the colors black or grey with a top stove exit. A two-step door opening system safeguards access to the fire. Standard features include steel side and top plates, connecting pipe and a brilliant high-quality glass-pane door that invites a safe, unobstructed view of the fire.
Installation: Weight 397 lbs, 19 1/2 - 19 1/8 - 63 inches, Firebox interior (W-D-H) 14 9/16 - 14 15/16 - 16 3/16 inches, Pipe Diameter 6 inches. Typical heat output will range from 11,500 (min.) to 22,600 (max.) BTU/hour. The top-vented RAIS TOPAS requires only a 5 inch clearance to the back wall and a 7 inch clearance to the side walls. However, the connector pipe needs to be 14” from side wall and 11” away from back wall. The distance from center of top exit to back edge from top plate should be 9 inches.
Optimal Efficiently: To achieve maximum heat energy from the wood, RAIS stoves preheat the combustion air, guides the preheated air through a system of baffle plates. When the thermal conditions are met, 80% of the weight of a dry wood log is turned into volatiles. For best results, it is important that the wood moisture is low; RAIS recommends 16-20% moisture in the wood.
Respecting the environment has always been very close to the hearth of RAIS. In fact, RAIS now certifies most stoves, including the RAIS TOPAS, to the new Nordic Swan Eco-label. To be swan-label worthy, fireplaces must produce low levels of particle, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions, in addition to being highly efficient and made of environmentally suitable materials.
