Maserati GranTurismo Convertible Sport
A four seat convertible with the beautiful design, fine materials and performance
expected of a genuine Italian open air machine.
Maserati follows a careful tradition which places a premium on building cars of proper sporting ability, timeless elegance and sense of occasion a car from Modena, Italy has within its bloodline. Critical design features have allowed the modern line of two and four-door Maseratis to gain legendary status in handling and performance, while remaining comfortable and relaxed during everyday driving.
Passengers reside within a cabin of captivating design that is pleasant to the look and to the touch, enhanced by the appeal of hand-craftsmanship and love of detail in the execution. Italian leather assures an aromatic and welcoming environment.
When Maserati unveiled the GranTurismo in 2007, it sent shock waves through the automotive world. Not only was it stunning to look at - aggressively sporty yet swooping and pretty - but it also featured rear seats suitable for adults, where most of the competition had rear space only for children.
Two years later came the hotly anticipated GranTurismo Convertible; looking just as good whether the powered roof is up or down, and with sparkling performance, it offers all the advantages of the GranTurismo with the option to enjoy open-air motoring.
2012 brings the Maserati GranTurismo Convertible Sport. The new car has an engine providing yet more power and torque, suspension enhancements and reprogrammed electronics promising even better handling, and exterior and interior detail giving the whole car a more sports-oriented look and feel.
Maserati's engineers have emphasized sporting intent with the black front grille, headlamp surrounds, and sport oval exhaust pipes. Front winglets and revised side skirts are part of a revised aerodynamic package; in combination with the new 20" wheels, all the exterior updates combine to suggest a wonderfully elegant velvet glove with the presence of an iron fist unmistakable.
The 4.7-liter V8 engine has been subjected to a number of revisions, aimed at reducing friction and improving fuel efficiency. The raft of changes sees peak power rise to 444 hp, while peak torque is now 376 lb-ft. This allows the GranTurismo Convertible Sport to sprint from a standstill to 60mph in just 5.2 seconds, while the top speed is a blistering 177mph.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels by a six-speed ZF automatic transmission developed in partnership with Maserati with five operating modes to help make the best of all driving situations. Use full throttle in Auto Sport mode and MC Auto Shift programming sees ratios changing even faster.
Helping keep everything in check are powerful Brembo brakes, using exclusive dual-cast technology, while the Maserati Stability Program (MSP) has been recalibrated specifically for the GranTurismo Convertible Sport’s increased sporting capabilities. Finally the Skyhook adaptive suspension system has been uprated to further enhance ride quality and handling.
The interior hasn't been neglected, either. Indications of the performance heritage of the latest Maserati are obvious, from the Grigio Dark Chrome finish of the dashboard to the drilled aluminum pedals. The gearshift paddles fixed to the column are 'Trofeo Design', now even longer to make shifting easier at more aggressive steering angles, providing even more control to the engaged driver. The center display now includes a special indicator, unique to this model, for the gearbox management system. And the central panels of the seats have been specially designed, with stitching patterns that echo the lines of the GranTurismo Convertible Sport's front grille.
The latest addition to the Maserati range offers all the grand touring capabilities and glamorous looks of the GranTurismo Convertible with a more performance-oriented focus. Hood up or hood down, the new Maserati GranTurismo Convertible Sport looks stunning and delivers awesome performance.
