During the celebratory year of the Big Bang family’s 10th anniversary, Hublot recently unveiled the new Big Bang Ferrari Speciale
timepiece. This is Hublot’s third year of a successful partnership with Ferrari, following their previous Ferrari-partnered timepieces, including the Big Bang Magic Gold in 2012, introducing the brand’s patented scratch resistant gold, the 2013 MP-05 LaFerrari which holds the world-record for its 50 day power reserve, and the 2014 Big Bang Ferrari Titanium Carbon with its iconic red sapphire crystal.
Hublot developed the Big Bang Ferrari Speciale in two styles, the Big Bang Ferrari Speciale Black Ceramic and the Big Bang Ferrari Speciale Grey Ceramic, both of which are inspired by Ferrari’s exceptional cars and their sensibility. The Big Bang Ferrari Speciale Black Ceramic style has details of Ferrari’s legendary red color throughout the timepiece, whereas the Big Bang Ferrari Speciale Grey Ceramic is inspired by the NART (North America Racing Team) livery.
Both versions adorn a sporty design with 45mm diameter case and an aerodynamic dial where the depths of the movement are shown. The skeleton dial reveals the main plates and bridges of this timepiece’s in-house UNICO movement by a blackened criss-cross mesh Ferrari grille on the dial. The anti-reflective sapphire dial also features the iconic Ferrari horse at 9 o’clock and the minute counter and date window are placed at 3 o’clock in the Ferrari shield colors. The transparent anti-reflective sapphire crystal case-back reveals the oscillating weight, similar to the distinctive codes of the five-spoke Ferrari wheels. The Ferrari colors are used for the aesthetic of the dial that has a rhodium-plated finish for the grey ceramic version and a red varnish for the black ceramic version.
The crown and pushers are made of polished titanium with black rubber and the red lacquered Ferrari logo is visible on the stop pusher. The elongated push buttons are fixed to a rotating staff to resemble the pedals of a Ferrari car. The Big Bang Ferrari Special features interchangeable Schedoni leather and black rubber straps in either a red, white or blue stripe or a grey, black and white stripe, both of which resemble the Ferrari racing car seats. The attachment system for the strap was inspired by car seat belts, as the strap is equipped with a “One Click” feature – an Hublot patent allowing the wearer to exchange straps to complement his or her look.
The limited-edition Big Bang Ferrari Speciale – available in both black ceramic and grey ceramic – is exclusive to 250 pieces for each model. Both styles are equipped with a 72-hour power reserve, water resistant up to 100m, and developed and manufactured with Hublot’s in-house HUB 1241 UNICO movement that has an automatic flyback chronograph.
