Taking Advantage of the New Tax Laws

by Robin S. Davis, CFP

Taking Advantage of the New Tax Laws Most advisors were holding their breath at the end of 2010 because we did not have a clue how the tax laws were going to change for the years going forward.  This made it difficult to make decisions on tax harvesting-selling stocks or funds to take advantage of gains and/or losses.  This was mostly affecting the decision to take gains in 2010 if the maximum capital gain rate was going to be increased in 2011.  Another area of apprehension was whether to convert traditional individual retirement accounts to Roth IRA’s affecting the choice to pay the taxes all on the 2010 tax return, or split it 50/50 between tax years 2011 and 2012. by Leslie G. Ungar

Sweat the Right Small Stuff: Seven Achilles Heels of Today’s Leaders Let’s go on a journey inwards. Everyone is a boss: of a company, team, or of themselves. As we look at the seven Achilles heels you will see that sometimes the small stuff does need to be sweated. Just make sure it is the right small stuff. The executive who needs to be the sole point person is hard on an organization and hard on the individuals.  In today’s world, young Gen X and Gen Y won’t wait out a micro-manager boss. The efforts of an organization need to be directed outward. When the leader needs to be the sole person, the energy of the organization is spent inward rather than outward. Read More
